Social Networking Sites

SNS is an online services for communities of people who share an interest with one another to collaborate and surely we are aware of the potential benefits of bringing SNS usage into the FL class.

SNS in Education
  • Provide a casual place of learning
  • Encourage students to express their own thoghts
  • Provide effective collaboration and communication
  • Enhance students' learning experiences
  • Build an online learning
Using SNS in the class, We feel comfartable using the social networking site,
in our class SNS allows us to interact and build a learning community and allows us to personalize pages to exspress individuality and creativity. Besides: it allows us to pose question-answer to the community, also, we can share photos, music and videos. It allows us to hold forums to discuss topics of interest, it is user friendly and is a great tool for class communication. Thaks to SNS, students can be more active and they communicate with classmates about course-related topics.

After all of this, I thik that SNS should be used both teachers and students in FL classrooms. Kara McBride are aware of importance using SNS and she says that Net Genaration has always had fast, interactive media sharing technologies surroinding them and 80%-90% of them have pofiles on SNS. This is a lifestyle to them and give educators reason to believe we should incorporate SNS usage into our class-related activities.

What is a wiki?

A wiki is a web page. There are participants who can create, edit or comment without any special technical knowledge. It is user friendly. Only need is a computer with an internet connection. It provides collaborative working, teaching and learning to participants.

Who uses wikis?

Teachers use the wikis in the “real world” (outside of K-12 schools). They have some aims to their students: collaborating on projects or trying to share things online. Besides, Wikis are used  more and more classrooms are now learning, creating, reading, and testing online. In order to keep up with our technologically demanding lifestyles, it’s also a fun way to engage students.

Why I chose wikis:

  • Free
  • Runs on older computers
  • Runs on slower internet
  • 'Think Pair Share' for the computer.
Classroom Wiki Uses

  • Lesson summarize
  • Notes collaboration
  • Concept instruction&Exploratory
  • Learn shares
  • Individual assesments
  •   Rewards
  • Classroom organization
Example:
As a teacher: before the next lesson: I can share a video about my topic and want to watch it and think about the next lesson and make a brief provision to topic from my students. After they watch, they can write their thougts at that moment.
